  MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

I trust you are having a great “after-Easter” time. Easter was a great time of blessing for us as a parish family. It was wonderful to see so many of you. I was very proud of our children and teens who participate in so many activities during our Holy Week – from our Good Friday Children’s Service, to ushering on Easter Sunday, to our very powerful Good Friday Passion Play – wow! I am also so proud of the children in our Children’s Ministry and in our Kids Klub. Their fundraising for the less fortunate during Lent was wonderful. So too was all your assistance to our St Vincent de Paul Society. It was great to see so much activity and the signs of life around our community.

For many of us, it seems that life is getting faster and faster all the time.  I guess during times like these – busy times that is – we can give in to everything and accomplish nothing – except exhaustion – or we can pick and choose those things that matter, and do them well. How blessed we are to be people of faith!

Our faith helps us to put into perspective, and gives us a sense of priority, to what is important and what really matters. It comes down to a relationship. Are we focusing our lives on our relationship with the Lord? Is He first? Is His day central? Is worshipping God as a family a priority. It is amazing that when we put God first, the rest seems to find not only room to get done, but it gets down with a greater sense of peace. If you don’t believe me – try it for 30 days – put God first into your day, your week, your Sunday – and watch the change – it will be more powerful than the signs of spring after a long winter.

Please know that at St Mary’s there is something for everyone. I truly pray for you each day, and look forward to helping you find your place at St Mary’s.

Together in the Lord’s Service

Father F. Freitas

Pastor

WCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan Survey

The WCDSB Multi Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) 2015-2018 was approved by the Board of Trustees in December, 2015.

We are currently in the process of gathering input to assist with an updated evaluation of the current MYSP as well as to help lay the foundation for the creation of our new MYSP. We are inviting all staff, students, parents and community members to complete the MYSP Survey (one per family). Your input is important, valued and appreciated.

Please consider the survey from the perspective from the role that you have identified for yourself in the first question (some questions may not apply to every individual). In some cases, questions may not seem applicable to you based on your role or experience. In those cases, please select “Does not apply/Don’t know”.

You are free to complete the survey another time if you wish to answer from the perspective of another role (for example, you are both a staff member AND a parent of a WCDSB student).

Participation in the survey is completely voluntary and all of your responses are anonymous. None of the responses will be connected to identifying information. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the collection of this information, please contact the Board’s Research Coordinator at Kelly.Roberts@wcdsb.ca

Tomorrow is St. Gabriel Wings Wednesday.  Please wear your jersey or green tomorrow and again on Thursday.

Message from Director of Education, Loretta Notten…

As many of you are already aware, Canadians from coast, to coast to coast will join together on Thursday, April 12th for a special “Jersey Day” to honour the victims of last Friday’s tragedy involving the Humboldt Saskatchewan Broncos hockey team.

We have flown our flags at half-mast yesterday and today as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families. We now invite all students and staff to offer a further sign of support by wearing a sports jersey to school (or to your board admin facility) on Thursday. We further encourage you to share your photos on social media so that all affected by the tragedy will know the entire WCDSB community is thinking of them, and praying for them. You may wish to include the hashtags #humboldtstrong and #humboldtbroncos.
