St. Gabriel Wednesday Updates

We are preparing for Advent which starts on Sunday Dec. 3. To see when our weekly school Advent celebrations are, please check the Calendar on our webpage.

The Red Stocking Campaign starts Monday Dec. 4th and ends Monday Dec. 11th.  Students are asked to bring in small items that will fit into a Christmas Stocking.  Pencils, erasers, crayons, small toys, etc.  The stockings will go to St. Mary of the Visitation and Father will send them to Haiti.

Please watch for the December Newsletter.

Dear St. Gabriel Community,

As you may be aware by now, yesterday afternoon there was a fire at a business several blocks away from the school. At the end of last recess, we noticed smoke coming from ‘downtown’. We were immediately in communication with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, who asked that we stay inside (“Shelter-in-place”) and wait for further instructions. Announcements were made in the school assuring the students and staff that we were all safe. We were also in communication with Silver Heights Elementary School and Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region. Very close to the dismissal bell at 3:40 p.m., the Waterloo Regional Police told us we could safely have a regular dismissal. We made another announcement advising students to be safe and go directly home. Staff were also outside of the school reminding students that walk to go directly home. We are having a normal school day today, and our prayers are with the businesses and individuals directly affected by the fire.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
