Splish Splash We are having a Bash!!

Splish Splash We are having a Bash!!

We are very excited to announce that the St. Gabriel Dance-a-thon is returning on Thursday, April 20th. This event will be an opportunity for all students to participate in physical activity and help to raise money for their school community. Our Dance-a-thon will be Beach themed, and students may dress in appropriate attire for this event (shorts, sunglasses, sun hats, etc). All donations are very much appreciated!

All funds raised will help support students at St. Gabriel in a variety of areas in both the classroom and school environments. The goal of our fundraiser is to support several initiatives such as:

  • Chromebook cart to support access to devices for students
  • Science supplies & tools
  • New classroom recess equipment
  • New Physical Education equipment
  • New team uniforms
  • Enhancements to our outdoor learning spaces

Please ask family members and family friends to pledge. We ask that students do not go door to door and ask strangers for pledges.

For every $5 in Dance-a-thon pledges, students will receive one ticket for the prize basket table. Note: the average student submits $25+ and donations of $25 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. Please note: all pledges must be completed on St.Gabriel SchoolCash Online by Thursday, April 13th to be eligible for prizes.

***NO CASH OR CHEQUES WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE SCHOOL***

A “Beach Bag” treat bag will also be available for purchase through SchoolCash Online for $5. This bag will be similar to the Christmas Cheer treat bags that were available this year.

Please see attached letter for prize donation requests for each class “basket.”

Welcome back and Important Info

Welcome Back, Wing Community!  We hope everyone was able to spend some good quality family time together over March Break!  Please make note of the important events coming up for our St. Gabriel Community.

Rock Your Socks!

All students and staff at St. Gabriel are encouraged to wear their funky socks on Tuesday, March 21st to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Worldwide, individuals and groups wear colourful, fun or mix-matched socks to celebrate our differences and raise awareness about Down Syndrome. #SeeTheAbility

Dole Whip

Tuesday, March 21st, will be the first day our school enjoys the famous Dole whip, just like at Disney. For anyone who did place an order, please bring a spoon to school. We are keeping our school environmentally friendly with reusable spoons. For anyone who didn’t get a chance to place an order, please keep an eye out for April orders going out soon on School Cash Online.

Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

If you are a ‘walker’, please be sure to thank our crossing guards in a special way this Wednesday, March 22nd! Our crossing guards are important members of our community, helping ensure the safety of our students as they travel to and from school!

Spring Clean Up – Toy Donation

As the warmer weather comes, many families are starting to do some spring cleaning and reorganizing of household items. If you have a gently used toy such as Duplo Lego, toy cars, tricycles, toy baby strollers or an item you think the early year’s team and students could enjoy please bring it to school and drop it off in the Kindergarten/Extended Day area. If you ring the buzzer after school hours Mrs. Perreira will meet you at the doors to accept your donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

PA Day – March 31

A reminder to our families that the school will be closed for students on Friday, March 31st.  School staff will be engaged in professional learning that day.

New Gym Sign

We want to thank our School Council and the community for their support in getting our gym sign completed during March Break. We were able to unveil the sign to our students this morning in an assembly after morning announcements. Their reaction was priceless! #ProudOfOurSchool #HomeoftheWings

Grade 8 Parents/Guardians – Devices Request

Grade 9 Student Devices for September

As you know, technology plays a significant role in education, and the WCDSB aims to provide students with the best possible learning experience. At this time, the WCDSB would like to assess the number of families/students that already own personal devices. Equally, they wish to assess how many families might need a device for learning when their child enters grade 9.

We would like to request that parents of all grade 8 students who intend to attend one of our secondary schools in September to check their email inboxes for communication regarding a survey to assess system technology needs. The email will contain a link to a short survey that will take only a minute to complete.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact innovation@wcdsb.ca

Social Worker Appreciation Week

The staff and students at Saint Gabriel would like to take the opportunity today, to say a huge THANK YOU to all our Social Workers! Your contributions to our school community are often overlooked and understated, but we want to let you know today, and this week especially, that your role on our team is valued! Your commitment to our students when they are at their most vulnerable and your willingness to support the many adults in our buildings, demonstrate that you are here for us! Knowing that someone like you is there to support us is reassuring and comforting. Your role is vital to the success of our system, and we wanted to make sure that today especially, you know how thankful we are for YOU!
