Merry Christmas and Staff Welcomes and Goodbyes

Good Afternoon Saint Gabriel Families,

On behalf of the Saint Gabriel Staff, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family warm greetings and well wishes across this Holiday season. May you find some time to rest and enjoy time spent with family and friends.

As the calendar year comes to an end, we would like to wish Mrs. Dalley well as she completes her time with us here at St. Gabriel. We are so lucky to have had Mrs. Dalley join our community this year. We would also like to wish Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. MacWhirter all the best in their new roles outside of Saint Gabriel. Thank you for making Saint Gabriel awesome!

With every goodbye comes a hello! Welcome to Mr. Caceros, our new CYCW and Ms. Delion, our new Educational Assistant. We are thrilled to have them join our team here at Saint Gabriel!

Merry Christmas and have a restful holiday and see you all on January 9th, 2023!

WCDSB Schools Closed Friday, December 23rd due to Weather

Dec 22, 2022

Dear WCDSB Students and Families,

major winter storm is expected to reach Waterloo Region overnight tonight and is expected to cause dangerous driving conditions on Friday and over the weekend.

Based on this forecast – and with the safety of all in mind – the WCDSB in collaboration with the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region, has made the proactive decision to cancel ALL student transportation and close all schools tomorrow, Friday, December 23, 2022.

All before and after school programs and child care centres co-located in schools will also be closed.

And all programs and services offered by St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres are cancelled and St. Louis sites will be closed.

We pray that everyone is able to remain safe during the storm, and we wish one and all a happy and blessed Christmas break.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Christmas Concert Update

Good afternoon Wings!

We want to share with you the details of the Christmas Concert! On Thursday, December 22, 2022, our amazing students will get a chance to show off all of their hard work that they have been putting into their performances! All tickets have been distributed and both shows are sold out!

We would ask that you observe the following:

  • There is no parking on site in either staff lot. Please find street parking and pay close attention to the signage so that you do not get a ticket. Only Handicap parking spots are opened with proper documentation.
  •  For the Morning Show, doors will open at 9:30 am and the show will begin at 9:45 am. Please line-up at the main doors of our school as the other doors of the school are for student entry only.
  • For the Afternoon Show, doors will open at 1:15 pm and the show will begin at 1:30 pm. Please line-up at the main doors of our school as the other doors of the school are for student entry only.
  • Bring in your tickets to get entry into the gym and please consider donating a non-perishable item at the gym doors.
  •  There will be benches at the front of the gym, so when your child is performing you will be able to move to the front to see them and take pictures. It is extremely important to please remember that due to privacy policies in our school board please do not post pics or videos of children other than your own on any social media platforms.
  • As always, masks are encouraged when in a crowd of this size, but not mandatory.
  • In the event of inclement weather, a newswire will be sent out indicating any date change.

We wanted to thank in advance all the staff involved in organizing this wonderful event! It is so great that another Saint Gabriel tradition is returning to our school!

Merry Christmas Wings!

Congratulations, Good-bye and Welcome

It is with excitement and joy to announce to our school community that Ms. Erin Stevens our Vice Principal, has been appointed Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes in Waterloo.  Ms. Stevens has served Saint Gabriel School for almost 2 years and has been a tremendous advocate of supporting student learning and school wide initiatives. She always goes above and beyond in supporting students, families, and the school staff. Her dedication to our students and care for others will be greatly missed. We wish Ms. Stevens all the best as her leadership journey continues.

Ms. Nancy Montes, who is currently an Instructional Math Coach for our school board, has been assigned to Saint Gabriel as our new Vice Principal.  Ms. Montes has great expertise and passion for school improvement initiatives and Mathematics. Welcome Ms. Montes to the best elementary school in Cambridge😊!

These new transitions of administrators will occur during the Christmas Break. Ms. Stevens’ last day at Saint Gabriel will be December 23rd with Ms. Montes’ joining us starting January 9th.

Get ready for the return of Christmas Cheer!!

Christmas Cheer bags are available for order on SchoolCash Online. A bag of special individually wrapped Christmas treats will be delivered to students by some special elves on Wednesday December 21st, 2022 at school. Cost of each bag is $5 and orders must be placed online by 11:45 pm on Tuesday December 13th.

The bag will contain items such as chips/popcorn, several candy items, a few chocolate items, and non-food items. Each bag will have more than 10 items.

This is an optional activity for families that wish to purchase a Cheer Treat Bag for their student(s).  In the past we had families request the opportunity to purchase additional bags to bring Cheer to other students in the school.  We are opening up that option once again so you can help spread the holiday spirit throughout the school.

Please Note: Additional Bags purchased for “another child” will be for anonymous students within the school and not siblings.  If you have multiple children in the school and wish for each child to receive a Cheer Bag, please order one under each child’s name.

Thank you School Council for continuing with this tradition at Saint Gabriel School.
